The Seminoles are considered one of college football's elite teams, having won two national championships and eighteen conference titles over their history while producing two Heisman Trophy winners. Twenty-seven players from the program have been inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame with thirty-six players having won individual awards including consensus All-Americans and Academic All-Americans before they entered professional football careers.
The FSU football team has played more games against top ten ranked opponents than any other program since 1950. On September 25th against Louisiana Monroe, Sean Maguire threw for two touchdowns and ran for another to help lead them past ULM 28-14 on Homecoming at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla., Saturday evening.

The 2015 season was a breakthrough year for the Seminoles, as they won 10 games in a row to finish undefeated in ACC play (6–0), won the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Game against Clemson 51–14,[1] reached #1 ranking in all polls for two weeks,[2][3] and finished 12–1 overall.[4] This was enough for them to be selected as participants in college football's first-ever playoff system[5], where they won their semifinal game over Oregon 59–20[6] before falling short against eventual national champion Alabama by 36 points.[7]

After defeating Iowa 16-15 in overtime following a controversial late hit call by officials that nullified an interception near midfield by cornerback P.J., who later told ESPN "I don't think they should be working anymore," he was unsure if he would return next season due to his chances being limited as part of what will likely be one of college football's best defenses ever had been limited largely because of injuries earlier this year; however, he did return for spring practice along with several other starters from last year's team including quarterback Jameis Winston who has announced plans on returning after leading them back from deficits twice throughout the bowl

The Seminoles have won twenty-one conference titles and have played in forty-two bowl games, winning twenty-nine.
